Our Water Supply

Schertz has taken a proactive approach to securing a reliable, long-term water supply for its growing community. Through a partnership with Seguin and the creation of the Schertz/Seguin Local Government Corporation (SSLGC), the City has invested in a robust regional system that delivers high-quality groundwater and ensures sustainable water service for decades to come. Water Conservation

The City of Schertz prioritizes water conservation to maintain reliable service and stable water pressure, especially during high-demand summer months. Learn more about how the city is working towards conservation on the water conservation page.

Drinking Water Quality Reports

Schertz is proud of its water! Since March 2003, the City receives its water from the Carrizo Aquifer. Unlike other cities in the area that rely on the Edwards Aquifer, Schertz customers have high quality water with limited use restrictions.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality requires the City to provide users with a water quality report. All reports are for the previous year.

As part of our commitment to transparency and public health, and in accordance with regulations from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the City of Schertz provides the completed lead service line inventory.

The City of Schertz surveys water lines in the city to inventory and determine the pipe materials used to connect our water distribution system to residences or businesses. Although highly unlikely, this process will help determine if any lead pipes still exist on the customer-facing side of residences. The inventory has been completed and was submitted to the Environmental Protection Agency on October 16, 2024.

Wastewater UtilityWhen is Water Pressure Too Low or Too High?

The City of Schertz Water Department is regulated by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). The TCEQ rules state, “The system must be designed to maintain a minimum pressure of 35 psi at all points within the distribution network at flow rates of at least 1.5 gallons per minute per connection.”

The deviation in elevation throughout Schertz’s water service area makes it impossible to maintain one constant pressure zone for our customers. Higher elevations will tend to have lower water pressures and lower elevations toward higher pressures. The Schertz water system is designed to provide a minimum of 750 GPM fire hydrant flow and to ensure that we meet the minimum water pressure requirements. It is important to know that the Texas/Schertz plumbing/building code requires a pressure-reducing valve to be installed when water pressures at the residence exceed 80 psi. Although the working pressures of house plumbing and appliances exceed 80psi, some insurance companies will not cover any damages or replacement of an appliance if this situation exists. It is important for you to know what your insurance provider requires/will cover. If you have any questions concerning the water pressures in Schertz, contact the Schertz Water Department at (210) 619-1800. To find out what your insurance companies rules are about coverage to damage to, or replacement of an appliance, you should contact them directly.
