Did you know that 4 out of 5 car seats are installed incorrectly? Car crashes are a leading cause of unintentional injury-related death in children. A properly installed child safety seat is highly effective at preventing injury and death. More than 80% of all child safety seats on the road are improperly installed. Is yours one of them?
The Schertz Police Department offers child safety seat inspections through the Safe Kids program to ensure that your child is secured properly when riding in the family vehicle. Our agency has a specially trained technician who holds a national certification affiliated with Safe Kids. Our technician will take the time to observe the child in the seat as it is currently being used, inspect the safety seat, and go over proper installation techniques with the parent(s). The process takes about 30-45 minutes and is free of charge.
Instruction by Appointment
Appointments are done Monday through Friday during business hours. Our goal is not to be an installation service, but an education service. We will spend approximately 30 to 40 minutes explaining the parts and functions of your seat as we instruct you in its proper installation and use. If possible, we would like you to install the seat on your own, using what you have learned.

Texas Child Passenger Safety Laws
In a passenger vehicle
- Children younger than 8 years old
- Unless they are taller than 4'9", they must be restrained in a child safety seat in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
- Anyone 8 years old or older must be restrained in a seat regardless of position in vehicle.
"Passenger vehicle" means a passenger car, light-duty truck, sport utility vehicle (SUV), and passenger van designed to transport 15 or fewer passengers, including the driver, truck or truck tractor.
