The City of Schertz is updating its Master Thoroughfare Plan to make sure the City's long-range transportation plan reflects current conditions, future growth, and the needs of the community.

The current plan was adopted in 2017 and is intended to be updated as conditions change.

What is a Master Thoroughfare Plan?

A Master Thoroughfare Plan is a long-range plan for the City's major transportation network. It helps the City plan for future roadway connections and preserve opportunities for a connected transportation network as Schertz grows. The plan considers how roads can connect neighborhoods, businesses, schools, and other destinations while supporting safe and efficient travel throughout the City.

What does the plan do?
  • Plans for future transportation needs as Schertz grows.

  • Identifies major roadway connections that can improve mobility and connectivity.

  • Helps guide future development and transportation decisions.

  • Preserves opportunities for future roadways and connections.

  • Provides a long-term framework for transportation investments.

What does the plan not do?
  • It does not mean a road shown on the plan will be built immediately.

  • It does not establish a specific construction date or guarantee that a roadway will be built.

  • It does not establish the exact final location or design of every roadway.

  • It does not replace the future engineering, funding, environmental, and project-development processes needed to build a road.
