The City of Schertz recognizes the seriousness of the recent spike in COVID-19 cases, and after careful and deliberate consideration, the City has decided to cancel the 4th of July Jubilee parade and fireworks. “This difficult decision was necessary to preserve the health and safety of our community and our first responders,” stated Schertz Mayor Ralph Gutierrez. Residents are encouraged to celebrate our nation’s birth safely and comfortably from their own homes. The City Fire Marshal would also like to remind residents that the possession or use of any kind of firework is prohibited (illegal) inside the city limits.
The patriotic T-shirt decorating contest and the patriotic chalk driveway contest will continue as planned. Prizes for each contest include EVO game cards and up to $500.00 in H-E-B gift cards. The deadline for both contests is July 5 at 5:00 p.m. and entries can be submitted via email or by tagging Schertz Parks and Recreation on social media. More details are available on Schertz.com/jubilee.
“The City of Schertz would like to wish everyone a safe and happy 4th of July holiday,” said Mayor Gutierrez.
