The Schertz Police Department employs the most professional and qualified Texas Peace Officers to positively represent the City of Schertz and the law enforcement community. As of 2024, the Schertz Police Department has 73 sworn Peace Officers and a Reserve Officer program for those who are interested. To maintain its operational strength, the Department periodically conducts hiring processes when vacated positions become available. Positions frequently become available due to several reasons such as retirements, promotions, and personnel moves.

Qualifications

Schertz Police Department officer candidates must:

  • Be at least 21 years old at time of Academy graduation (maximum 45 years of age)
  • We hire cadets (starting salary: $58,000/year) or officers with prior experience 
  • Have a high school diploma or GED certificate
  • Have a valid Texas driver’s license
  • Pass a Written Exam
  • Pass a Physical Agility Test
  • Pass a Polygraph Test
  • Participate in an interview panel
  • Pass a Medical Exam
  • Pass a Psychological Exam
