The Schertz Animal Services Division of the Police Department enforces the City’s Animal Ordinance and Texas Laws relating to animals, provides an animal adoption program, picks up and shelters stray, sick and/or injured animals, and investigates animal cruelty and neglect.
ANimal SERVICES UPDATE:
Currently, we are limiting the amount of walk-in traffic in and out of the Animal Adoption Center. With these precautions in place, we anticipate fewer than normal adoptions and we are asking for assistance from individuals, volunteers, rescues, and organizations to help foster, rescue or adopt the great animals we have in our shelter.
If you are interested in adopting an animal, please do not come directly to the shelter, but instead, go to the Petfinder website.
Lost and Found Pets:
If you see a stray animal, please call us first. We ask that you not pick it up, take it to your home, or bring it to the shelter; we will dispatch an Animal Services Officers to come to get it.
If you have lost your pet, please watch our Facebook page where we post all new incoming animals to the shelter. If we have your animal, please call us to make an appointment to come to pick it up. As always, we encourage everyone to microchip their animals. This helps us identify and return lost pets to their owners very quickly.
At this time, we are only accepting donations purchased and shipped directly to the adoption center through our Amazon Wish List. We cannot accept any other types of donations. Please do not drop off any donations at the shelter, as we will be forced to dispose of them.
We are suspending our live trap rentals until further notice. If you have trapped an animal with your own trap, please do not bring it to the shelter. Call us and we will dispatch an Animal Services Officer to come to pick it up. You will be asked to place the trap at the front of your house by the curb for pick up. If we can, we will transfer the animal into one of our cages on-site, if not, we will take the trap and return it when done.
Volunteering and Community Service:
All volunteer and Community Service programs have been suspended until further notice.
Until further notice, there is no need to come to the shelter to update your city pet license.
Appointments at the Adoption Center:
Once you arrive, you will find that the front doors of the adoption center are locked. If we don’t see you, please call us to let us know you are there. If you are exhibiting any signs of illness, please do not come to the adoption center. We will not allow any individual exhibiting signs of illness into the facility.
If you need to claim a pet from the animal shelter, come by the Animal Adoption Center (Monday - Friday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturday, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM). If you locate a stray animal, call us at (210) 619-1550, so we can send an Animal Control Officer to assist.
To register your animal with the city, bring your current rabies vaccination to the animal shelter. City licenses expire with the rabies certificate and are available for both one year and three-year vaccinations. The current price for a city license is $5 a year for sterilized animals and $10 a year for non-sterilized. For more information, call 210-619-1550.
