Frequently Asked Questions
How do I check out a hotspot kit?
Visit the circulation desk or place a hold request via our catalog. You will need to be at least 18 years old and have an active Schertz Public Library card in good standing. Only one hotspot is allowed per household at a time.
What is in the hotspot kit?
A hotspot kit consists of: 1) a Franklin T10 mobile hotspot, 2) a USB-C charger, 3) a user guide, and 4) a case. All items must be accounted for when returning the kit to the circulation desk.
How long is the checkout period?
14 days.
Are renewals allowed?
Renewals are only available if there is no one else waiting on the holds list. The maximum amount of renewals is 2. Renewals are not automatic or guaranteed. Please visit the circulation desk or contact us at 210-619-1700 or librarian@schertz.com to attempt a renewal.
Where/how do I return the hotspot?
Hotspot kits must be returned to the circulation desk, where a staff member will check in the item and make sure all contents are present. DO NOT RETURN THROUGH THE BOOK DROP. Borrower is responsible for any damage to the hotspot or case contents if kit is placed in the book drop.
What cellular service is provided through the hotspots?
T-Mobile.
How many devices can I connect to the hotspot?
Up to 10 devices can be connected to the internet using the hotspot signal. Keep in mind that speeds may be reduced.
What are the overdue fines and replacement fees?
The fine for an overdue hotspot is $0.25 per day. When the hotspot is 1 day past due, it will be deactivated, rendering the device unusable. The borrower is responsible for the costs associated with damage or loss of the hotspot and all accessories due to neglect or abuse. The replacement cost for the entire hotspot kit (hotspot device, USBC charger, and case) is $74. Replacement fees for individual components are as follows:
-Hotspot: $57
-USB-C Charger: $10
-Case: $7
How to Connect Your Device to the Hotspot
- Power on your mobile hotspot by holding down the Power/Menu Button for 3 seconds.
- On your computer or other Wi-Fi enabled device, search for available Wi-Fi networks and select network name located on label on front of your hotspot.
- Enter the password located on label on front of your hotspot.
Troubleshooting
If the device isn’t showing up when looking for an internet connection, power off by pressing and holding the Power button for 10 seconds until the hotspot restarts.
If it still doesn’t work, open the battery cover, take the battery out and re-install the battery after 5 seconds. Put the battery cover back and turn on the device by pressing the Power button for 3 seconds.
If this doesn’t work, contact us letting us know, and we will try to troubleshoot further, or switch it out with another hotspot if available.
