The Neighborhood Services Division provides education and enforcement services to the public in order to minimize environmental and consumer health hazards. This is achieved through the promotion of public health and safety best practices in accordance with local and state ordinances, rules, and laws.
The department seeks to protect the City of Schertz through the investigating and abatement of the following: trash, rubbish, debris, junked vehicles, overgrown weeds/grass, and unmaintained pools.
The department also conducts routine inspections for all food establishments, all public and semi-public aquatic facilities, and responds to citizen complaints concerning a variety of public health/quality-of-life concerns.
Code Enforcement is within the City’s Neighborhood Services Division Department and works closely with the planning, zoning, and inspections process. Code Enforcement handles a variety of city codes and ordinances that protect the health, safety, and quality of life. Our team is assigned service calls based on geographic location.
Health and Sanitation is the part of the City’s Neighborhood Services Division responsible for protecting the health and safety of the citizens and visitors within Schertz. We ensure that food establishments, mobile food units, temporary food events, commercial swimming pools, and childcare facilities meet safe and sanitary requirements. Some additional duties include plan review for food establishments, responding to complaints on hotels for health and safety standards, and review other public health nuisance concerns.
