Youth Services Librarian-Maverick Committee Member
Youth Services Librarian, April Toman has served as a member of the Maverick Committee from 2018 through 2021. The Texas Maverick Graphic Novels Reading List (TMGNRL) is a recommended reading list developed by public and school librarians from the Young Adult Round Table (YART). April also attended and presented at virtual TLA in 2021.
Niche Academy
All library staff members have access to Niche Academy and complete training tutorials on a variety of online resources the library offers, as well as training on other relevant topics such as customer service 101, copyright & fair use, disability etiquette and awareness, and many more.
Ryan Dowd Monthly Webinars
Majority of our staff members attended the monthly webinars offered by Ryan Dowd in 2021. Some of the topics covered in 2021 included:
- Kicked Out: How to safely ask someone to leave without calling the police
- Fights! How to prevent and stop them safely
- Burnout and Stress: In case 2021 is as bad as 2020
- Police: How to reduce police calls and keep everyone safe in your organization
- Resolving Liberal Vs. Conservative Conflict in the Workplace
- Unattended Children: How to talk to parents about their children's behavior
Annual Cyber Security Training Initiative
Texas Legislature passed into law HB3834 that mandates that all governmental agencies, including municipalities to have an annual cybersecurity training regime put in place. In order to meet this mandate the City of Schertz has chosen to use our existing training and testing system provided by KnowBe4. All library employees completed assigned cyber security training for 2021.
Training goals and projects for all staff
All 21 library staff members are required to complete the attached goal sheet before the start of each calendar year/performance evaluation cycle. Supervisors work in collaboration with staff to select goals and to track progress throughout the year.
