Invest in collaborative efforts with community organizations

The Schertz Public Library participated in interdepartmental programs with our Parks and Recreation Department and our local area YMCA. In addition, the library works closely with the school district, SCUCISD, Lions Club, other area charter schools and organizations.  A few of the programs and events that we took part in with other departments or organizations are listed below.

Schertz Cibolo Universal City ISD (SCUCISD)
Unfortunately, because of the pandemic we were unable to attend some of the usual outreach functions that we participate in annually such as high school prep days and open houses where we issue digital library cards to students and inform parents and students about our resources. In 2021, Our Youth Services Librarian did a lot of collaboration with the English-language learners program by holding virtual and drive thru events as well as,  a couple other programs with the schools including: a summer school storytime/activity and a program for a 3rd grade class that included a storytime and information about library resources.

School of Science and Technology Virtual Presentation
On November 30, 2021, our Youth Services Librarian presented Library 101 to a local charter school. The presentation provided an overview of collections, e-resources, services, and programs.

YMCA Dunkin' for Pumpkins
On October 2nd, our Schertz Area YMCA held their annual Dunkin' for Pumpkins event at the Aquatic Center. Our Youth Services Librarian participated in the event by bringing a pumpkin themed game to play with participants.

City of Schertz Halloween Candy Cruise Event
The City of Schertz typically holds a Trunk or Treat event, but last year (2020) and this year (2021) the City opted to hold a socially distanced drive thru event called Candy Cruise for Halloween. The library signed up to be a destination along the candy cruise route and distributed candy to the community from 2-5 PM on Saturday, October 30th.

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Guadalupe County Chapter
Schertz Public Library has partnered with NAMI to promote mental health education and support for friends, families, caregivers, and for individuals living with a mental illness. Throughout the pandemic, we have shared information for support groups for those in need. We held a family & friends educational program in November of 2021 and collaborated on a library display during mental health awareness month in May of 2021.
