The Schertz Public Library is committed to promoting literacy and providing literacy based programs for all ages. Below are a few examples of literacy programs from 2021:
SCUC Library Drive-Thru
The Schertz Public Library collaborated with SCUCISD to offer a drive thru at the library for ESL students and their families. Participants were offered goody bags, snacks, books, and information on community resources. In addition to the drive thru program we offered a few other programs to the English-language learner (ELL) classes in the SCUCISD. The programs included a ZOOM Q&A session, a video tour of the library, and a storytime.
Rocket Languages ESL Lessons
The Schertz Public Library provides access to Rocket Languages for learners that want to become proficient in a language. One component of this resource is ESL lessons.
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
The Schertz Public Library & the Schertz-Cibolo Lions Club have partnered to offer an early literacy initiative called 1,000 Books before Kindergarten. This project encourages parents to read aloud at least 1,000 books with their children before they enter school.
Texas Talking Books Program Demo Site
Schertz Public Library is a demonstration site for the Texas Talking Books Program. The Talking Book Program (TBP) provides free library services to qualifying Texans with visual, physical, or reading disabilities. TBP is part of the National Library Service to the Blind and Print Disabled, a program administered by the Library of Congress.
