City of Schertz GIS Interns

The City of Schertz City Manager Department has openings for two (2) Temporary FLSA Non-Exempt Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Interns for the summer of 2008 working 40 hours per week (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday) for eight weeks. The position will work under the supervision of the GIS Technician II. Responsible for assisting with updating, maintaining, attributing, and overall development of GIS for the City. Fieldwork will be required in the case of data collection and verification. Requires: Knowledge of basic cartographic procedures, and ESRI software; College level studies or graduate with concentration in GIS, geography, computer science, or closely related field; Detail oriented with good communication skills; Valid Texas Driver’s License Class C. Desirable: Knowledge of ArcPad mobile software, Microsoft Office suite, and other mapping software.

Salary is $8.00 per hour, no benefits.

City of Schertz GIS Technician I

The City of Schertz City Manager Department has an opening for a full-time FLSA Non-Exempt Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician I. Responsible for providing technical support for the conversion and/or creation of spatial data in support of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Manipulates a variety of land databases to produce digital and hardcopy GIS products. Operates computer systems and peripheral equipment to product "as-built" drawings and maps of electronic power systems, streets, alleys, potable water supply and wastewater drainage systems. Produces and maintains site maps for Geographic Information System (GIS). Requires: Two (2) years of experience in Geographic Information Systems, programming, cartography, automated computer drafting design related calculations, technical drafting and applications with personal computers; Graduation from high school or a General Education Development (GED) Certificate; Two (2) years college from an accredited college or university with preferable coursework in Mathematics, Surveying, Computer Science, or Civil Engineering, or a related field or Equivalent combination of education and experience; Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.

Salary is $17.63 per hour or DOQ, which includes an excellent benefit package to include Health, Dental and Life Insurance programs.
